MEARC

for flute and piano

duration: 18 mins

This sonata was originally written in 2006 for violin and piano. This adaptation for flute was made in 2014 at the suggestion of Catherine Handley.

Mearc is the old Anglo-Saxon word for ‘boundary’.  It is also the term from which ‘Marches’ (as in ‘Welsh Marches’) is derived. The Marches is a part of the country I’m very familiar with having driven many journeys back and to from Wrexham to Cardiff - calling in at Ludlow for a bite to eat.
